Mini review of Becoming by Michelle Obama

It has taken me until the age of 26 to finally give audiobooks a try, but here I am. I decided to get Audible over the holidays and started with Becoming by Michelle Obama. And spoiler, I’m so glad I did!

I just finished, and I’m sad because I truly didn’t want this to end.

Mini review

It’s hard for me to put into words how much I loved this book. It moved me many times, made me think critically about the world and privilege, and made me miss the Obama family even more than I already did. I cried multiple times. I laughed out loud in my car on the way to work even more times.

In short: it was a very easy five star read to me, that I will return to many times over the years.

Already, I want to turn around and read it all over again. Michelle Obama tells her story from childhood through her time in the White House, in such an interesting, heartwarming, and overall extremely engaging way.

If you like memoirs, this book is for you. If you love the Obamas, this book is for you. If you didn’t like the Obamas, then this book is a great chance to look behind the scenes and know them more intimately than you could have through the media/ public eye. If you know them intimately, I don’t see how you could dislike them.

Becoming by Michelle Obama is officially on my forever favorites list. Have you read it? What was your biggest takeaway? I’d love to hear it in the comments below.
